All that glitters is Oscar gold!

Hollywood Most Wanted

By Mary An Shoppman.  The 82nd Annual Academy Awards! Last night was the event of the year for our movie star celebrities.  There is something so iconic about the Oscars. The golden silhouette of a very well postured man evokes the style and class of old Hollywood. Even with the class of old Hollywood, celebrities have always held a place in the public’s heart for not only their glamour, but more notoriously their…well, off screen antics. This years Oscars brought the usual joy and sorrow that comes from the reading of each envelope, “And the Oscar goes to…

Personally, I was thrilled with the outcome of both the Best Actress (Sandra Bullock) and Best Supporting Actress (Mo’nique) award winners.  Most notably the evening goes to “The Hurt Locker” Directed by Kathryn Bigelow this film was the David to Avatars Goliath. “The Hurt Locker” is the lowest grossing film to ever win Best Picture, whereas Avatar is THE highest grossing move…ever! Phenomenal.

Add on to that the fact that Kathryn Bigelow is the first woman to ever when for Best Director for “The Hurt Locker” and my personal favorite thing about this win of the evening, this David is Goliath’s ex-spouse! Oh, yes…in case you live under a rock in Hollywood Bigelow is Cameron’s ex wife. The couple met in 1989 and married that same year.  In 1991 the two divorced and both kept a tight lip on the separation.  They still claim to be friends, whatever. That does not help with the Hollywood gossip, so I prefer to think James Cameron is thinking he should have stopped at wife number three instead of go on, and on to current wife (number five!) Suzy Amis. I like to consider Bigelow’s win a win for all women, in more ways than one.And it would not be Hollywood without scandal.

There was a snub this year on the In Memoriam tribute. Unfortunately, Farrah Fawcett was not mentioned in the In Memoriam slide show at the Oscars! This was shocking to me, though Fawcett is most famous for her television roles, she has also contributed to both film and stage AND was nominated for a Golden Globe! This Oscar faux pas was felt at the heart of the Hollywood Community, with an out pouring of tweets in regards to the Fawcett’s omission.  The critic on all things film, Roger Ebert tweeted, “No Farrah Fawcett in the memorial tribute? Major fail.”But then again, it would not be the Oscars, Hollywood, without some controversy. Just another 365 days till next years Oscar scandal. Can’t wait!  - Mary An
