A ruthless enforcer for Dutch Schultz, Weinberg is remembered not just for his hits, but for the legendary way he supposedly met his end.
The Enforcer: He rose to become the chief lieutenant and top gunman for mob boss Dutch Schultz. He was a prime suspect in some of the most famous gangland murders, including the hits on “Mad Dog” Coll and Salvatore Maranzano.
The Betrayal (1933): When Schultz went into hiding to avoid tax evasion charges, Weinberg took control of the operation. However, he made a fatal mistake: he secretly negotiated with rivals Lucky Luciano and Louis Buchalter to keep the empire for himself.
The Disappearance (1935): When Schultz returned, Weinberg vanished after leaving a Midtown nightclub. Gangland lore claims Schultz had his feet encased in cement before dropping him alive into the East River—a fate famously nicknamed “wearing a concrete kimono”.
