Martin Luther King Jr.: The Dreamer

The leader of the Civil Rights Movement viewed his many arrests as badges of honor in the fight for justice.

  • Civil Disobedience: King was arrested nearly 30 times for his non-violent protests against segregation and injustice.
  • Birmingham Jail (1963): Arrested for protesting without a permit, he wrote the famous ‘Letter from Birmingham Jail’ while incarcerated.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott (1956): One of his first major arrests occurred during the boycott that launched the civil rights movement.
