SNOOP DOG #2

John Wayne Airport, Santa Ana, CA 92707 (John Wayne Airport)

On November 6, 2006, Snoop Dogg was arrested in connection with felony charges of possessing a deadly weapon. The charges stemmed from a September 27, 2006 incident at John Wayne International Airport in Orange County, California. The rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, attempted to board a flight to San Francisco with two bodyguards when airport security discovered a 20 inch collapsible baton inside his laptop computer case. Broadus explained that the baton was intended for use in a music video shoot, and that he did not realize it was a crime to carry it on board an airplane. While Broadus could have been charged with a lesser misdemeanor offense, officials charged him with the felony because of his prior criminal record.

Shortly after authorities issued a warrant for his arrest, the rapper voluntarily surrendered to police at the Orange County jail in Santa Ana, California on November 6, 2006. He arrived at the facility with his lawyer and a bail bondsman and immediately posted $150,000 bail. At his trial in September 2007, Broadus plead guilty to one count of felony possession of a dangerous weapon. The court sentenced him to 160 hours of community service and three years’ probation. He also was required to make a $10,000 charitable donation. In 2006, Broadus was also arrested for drug possession at Burbank Airport in Southern California and warned by police following a brawl at Heathrow Airport in London.
